Kate Hartshorn

I taught in Chicago Public Schools because I know we all just need a bit of support and guidance to be able to envision our future and get there. I started this career switch when I saw how important that uninterrupted one-on-one time can be to make life changing growth, and realized that I love to be a part of that change with people. I’ve spent time focusing my work on the mind-body connection, self-compassion, navigating systems that try to keep us down, processing trauma, and overall an increase in understanding and loving ourselves. I believe this allows us to be better for the people we care about and to begin to live a life we feel good about.

Whether you are 13 or 70, you only know what you know. Your body tries so hard to keep you physically and emotionally safe, but sometimes, you don’t like how it chooses to protect you. Maybe your first response is to cut people out of your life, yell or even hit, become overly attached to people, adjust your life just to please others, or maybe, you simply don’t react to anything and watch yourself go through the motions. Regardless of how you’re reacting to life, it makes sense given everything you’ve experienced. You don’t have to be so mean to yourself anymore; you can understand and give yourself the compassion you haven’t for so long. You can feel safe. You can feel loved. You just have to show up and put in some work.

Our work together will look different depending on your needs, your desires, and honestly, your personality. However you communicate and are authentically you, is exactly how I want you to come to session. I don’t want us to change who you are at your core, but we do get to work to uncover who you were meant to be before the world got in the way.

We use curiosity, compassion, and courage to get to a point of feeling calm, confident, creative, and connected again (or maybe for the first time). We learn to not judge ourselves. We spend time to see your strengths and amplify them. Together, we can uncover the “why” behind all of the parts of yourself that you aren’t satisfied with, and adjust them to better serve your life. My favorite part is when we are able to process all of the things that you shouldn’t have had to go through and come to see yourself clearly so that you can love yourself.

It’s difficult to imagine a life where you feel safe and experience self-compassion, and sometimes, it feels really scary.
