Trauma Informed Care

Trauma Informed Care is an approach that informs the way we work with clients, enabling the creation of a safe space in therapy.

We are passionate about how trauma work can lead to real healing. Learn more about trauma therapy, or take the step to start processing with a trauma therapist. We believe healing is possible.

Our Approach to Trauma Care

Every one of our therapists, as well as our support and operations staff, strive to work from a trauma-informed perspective. All of our therapists are equipped to work with a client’s experience of trauma both directly (in exploring and processing the client’s traumatic experiences) and indirectly, working from a trauma-informed perspective to address a client’s goals and priorities for their therapy.

While all of therapists are trained in Trauma-Informed Care, many of our therapists have also received advanced trainings on trauma-specific therapies. Unfortunately, trauma is more common and has a wider reach than anyone would ever want to be a reality. We decide to look at the pain and suffering of trauma head on and ensure we are equipped to heal the overwhelm of trauma when it impacts life and relationships.

Trauma Approaches Offered By Our Staff

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR)

EMDR is an evidence-based therapy created to allow for a more complete experience of processing trauma, involving the body in therapy processing with bilateral stimulation. The bilateral stimulation component of this therapy engages the brain and body as you process your emotions and experiences. Originally using eye movements to stimulate both sides of the brain and body, the therapy has expanded and allows for tactile or auditory bilateral stimulation options that are incorporated into your sessions. EMDR can be conducted as a stand-alone therapeutic process (the typical protocol is between 15-25 sessions) or incorporated into your regular therapy treatment as needed.

Why Should I See Someone Trauma Informed?

Expert Judith Herman states that, “Traumatic events are extraordinary, not because they occur rarely, but rather because they overwhelm the ordinary human adaptations to life.” (Trauma & Recovery)

Unfortunately, traumatic experiences are not rare in our world today. Many of us will experience them at some point in our lifetime and when we do, it impacts our bodies and our minds.

Trauma informed therapists are better equipped to provide you with the safe space and understanding that most of us need to heal.

All Staff at Optimum Joy are Trauma Informed

While all of our staff are trained in the basics of trauma-informed care, some have also pursued advanced trainings. Below is not an exhaustive list, however we want to highlight a few therapists to help introduce providers who are currently offering trauma therapy.
